HARDWARE TELEMETRY

ASIC Miner API

Know the rig. Preserve the sensor context. Build capability-aware ASIC telemetry instead of guessing what every firmware supports.

Capability first

Validate commands and fields against the actual hardware and firmware you operate.

Sensor context

Keep chip, inlet, fan, and power observations labeled according to their source.

Safe by design

Separate routine status reads from administration and device-control operations.

Different equipment needs explicit adapters

Do not assume that an API labeled “ASIC” exposes the same transport, command set, or response format on every device. Record the model, firmware, interface documentation, and capabilities you have actually tested. Let your public contract normalize naming and units without erasing meaningful differences.

The cgminer API reference documents its own commands and access model. It is a starting point for that implementation, not a compatibility guarantee for every commercial firmware. Consult the cgminer API documentation.

Make missing information useful

An absent temperature sensor is not a zero-degree reading. An unreachable controller is not proof of a failed fan. Include a quality state and timestamp with each observation, and keep unsupported fields clearly distinguished from temporarily unavailable data. The interface should help an operator identify the next source to inspect.

Use a fixture library to cover firmware variations, optional fields, partial responses, counter resets, and collection failures. Pair every fixture with the normalized result you expect. When a device changes, rerun those tests before making the new adapter available to the dashboard.

Observe before adding control

The public demo returns static JSON and cannot restart equipment, change pool configuration, or tune operating settings. A real monitoring collector should begin with similarly narrow permissions. Any future administration belongs behind its own authorization checks, explicit target selection, and audit trail.

Use the API reference to inspect the sample fields, then follow the full telemetry guide for the adapter workflow. This keeps hardware-specific collection separate from the reusable presentation layer.
